After saying that the Apple will release “several long-awaited features” with the iOS 17journalist Mark Gurman, from Bloomberg, released today that the company is planning a new interface that will show information like calendar appointments, weather and notifications — something in the style of smart displays like the Echo Show and others.

According to him, the purpose of the possible novelty is to make the iPhones more useful when they are, for example, on a person’s desk or bedside table – similar to how watchOS’s Bedside mode works, possibly.

In this sense, this interface will appear when an iPhone is locked and positioned horizontally — mirroring a functionality that has existed on Android for some time —, in order to also make use of the Always Active Screen of top-of-the-line iPhones.

Gurman pointed out that the change is part of a broader effort by Apple to incorporate live information into more parts of iOS — an approach that also includes the Apple Watch interface. This will build on the lockscreen widgets released as part of iOS 16 last year.

Still regarding iOS 17, the journalist also expects significant changes in the application Portfolio (Wallet) e location services improvements. According to him, there will also be a new diary app designed to add notes and news in the app. Health (Health) — which might come to iPadOS — with new features for recording your mood and dealing with vision problems.

New iPad interface, SharePlay and more

Still according to Gurman’s report, Apple is also working on a new horizontal interface for the iPadwhich has taken longer — as even iOS 16’s customizable lock screen isn’t yet available on tablets.

The company is also working on updates for the SharePlayits feature that lets you use FaceTime while users collaborate in apps, as well as the AirPlaywhich streams content from devices to TVs and speakers.

Finally, he recalled the company’s efforts to explore other ways to turn its devices into smart home gadgets, including the development of a tablet that can be attached to walls/supports and will allow you to control thermostats and lights, show videos and manage messages/calls .
