The Shield of Hylia, also known as the Hylian Shield, is one of the franchise’s most recognized items. The Legend of Zelda. And I have good news: you can get it very early in Tears of the Kingdom.
It’s even super simple. I tested the steps, and my Link now proudly wears the legendary shield.
How to get the Shield of Hylia in Tears of the Kingdom?
1. Make sure you have the Paraglider. Read our guide to getting it right here. It’s not required, but it helps.
2. The shield is in a cave under Hyrule Castle. Don’t be afraid: you don’t have to fight! Pass by the islands in the west of the map around the castle using your Paraglider and swim a little.
3. To enter the cave (see map below), you can build a small raft. I used some logs, a sail with the Grasp power, and a large leaf to control propulsion, but you can also use a Turbine already in your inventory. Or fly straight into the cave. The choice is yours!
4. Once at the pier, go opposite the main path and climb the wall at the back to avoid the enemies, including Ganon’s shadow. Or, fight, it’s up to you. Personally, it was a little too early in my adventure to face big not-ends.
5. You will then arrive in front of a giant torch. Light it by using a fire arrow crafted with your inventory items (Red Chuchu Jelly, Fire Fruit) or by lighting a wooden weapon using the other torches.
6. A chest with the shield will appear. The shield offers 90 defense and has good durability, but yes, it will break like all the others!

You can use Amalgamate to merge your new shield with another item. But, hey, I still suggest keeping Hylia’s Shield as it is; it is an iconic shield, following all.
