She is 110 years old – the legendary Chelsea Flower Show in London. The horticultural exhibition in the Nobel district Chelsea in the heart of London is considered a British institution. It is a trendsetter for the garden of the future, a playground for high society and a paradise for hobby gardeners.
“This is where new trends are created and old ones are revived,” say the organizers of the Royal Horticultural Society. For the tourism authority is the Chelsea Flower Show even the “counterpart of Paris Fashion Week”.

Kate & Camilla: Royals are always there
The exhibition takes place in the historic gardens of the Royal Hospital Chelsea – a home for retired soldiers on the banks of the Thames – and is several acres in size. There are 140,000 visitors a year, tickets can only be purchased in advance and usually sell out quickly.
But before the crowds of visitors are allowed onto the site, the royals traditionally come by. Camilla and Charles paid the show a visit and also Princess Kate had a meeting with groups of children in one of the gardens. Queen Elizabeth was more than 50 times at the flower exhibition.
Plant of the Year: Black Jack
In addition to the latest flower trends, the highlights of the show are the awards that are presented. The prize categories include the most beautiful show garden, the best city garden as well as trees, vegetables and herbs.
This year they also have sustainable projects and focused on resilient plants. The Chelsea Flower Show’s Plant of the Year award was presented Monday to purple lily ‘Black Jack’, which is particularly heat and drought tolerant.
