Benefits of apple cider vinegar

The health benefits of apple cider vinegar, according to a USA Today photo report, include:

•Weight loss

• Prevention of type 2 diabetes

• Reducing heartburn

• Lowering cholesterol

Negative effects

The list of negative side effects includes:

Acid erosion of teeth

• Increased heartburn

Those are great benefits if they’re really true, says Dr. Kalakuta, but she points out that there’s no evidence to suggest apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss unless it’s in combination with a calorie deficit — that is, unless you’re eating fewer calories than your body burns. “Drinking apple cider vinegar and then eating a huge burger and fries won’t do any good,” explains Dr. Kalakuta.

sugar and cholesterol in the blood

There are two areas where apple cider vinegar can play a small role, says Dr. Kalakuta, which are regulating blood sugar and keeping cholesterol in check. Synthesis studies suggest that apple cider vinegar may slightly decrease fasting glucose (high fasting glucose is considered a predictor of type 2 diabetes). In addition, some studies have shown small increases in high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is sometimes referred to as the “good” cholesterol — although they showed no effect on LDL, or the “bad” cholesterol.

Stomach acidity and tooth erosion

And Dr. Kalakuta stresses that apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, meaning “consuming it only contributes to an increase in acid in the stomach which is already problematic and can only exacerbate acid reflux.”

The best way to avoid risks

The most important thing to know regarding apple cider vinegar, advises Dr. Kalakuta, is that it should never be taken without diluting it with water first, as it can lead to tooth erosion or erosive esophageal disease due to the highly acidic nature of apple cider vinegar, stressing that the amount that can be taken is a maximum. It is one to two tablespoons mixed in a glass of water in moderation.

She adds, “Drink it [خل التفاح] Plus a meal helps, because the stomach lining is a little more protected from the acid because there’s other food in there as well.”

A whole apple

Dr. Kalakuta concludes her advice by saying that drinking a cup of apple cider vinegar does not bring the same benefit as eating an apple, explaining that when eating a whole apple a person gets “fiber, antioxidants and vitamins”, which is not available when drinking apple juice or apple cider vinegar.
