Within the framework of the commemorations for the 200 years of Jalisco, free and sovereign and to continue promoting the culture and identity of Guadalajara and Jalisco, the Governor of the State, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, chaired together with the mayor of Guadalajara, Pablo Lemus, the start of the “México en el Corazón” tour, which the Guadalajara Folkloric Ballet will perform in various cities in the Western United States, together with the Mariachi Juvenil Colotlán, the Banda Colores and the Marimba Maderas que Cantan.
This year the project was expanded to two routes due to the successful celebration through the cities of the American Union, to cover the east and west coast.
“Sergio Suárez made this project thinking regarding how we were able to bring music and culture as a tool not only to connect with our Jalisco communities in the United States, but as a way to celebrate the pride of being Mexican and of course of being Jalisco”, Alfaro Ramírez stated.
The project, which began in 2016 in the Perla Tapatía mayor’s office, was joined by the Fundación Universidad de Guadalajara. The Ballet of the maximum house of studies and the sounds of the mariachi will offer music and traditional dances from the states of Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Nuevo León and Chiapas.
“We are really very happy because the Mexico project in the heart of this year is linked to the celebration of our 200 years; We are celebrating with everything, many things are aligned and Jalisco is celebrating permanently because this year we not only remember the fight that gave us freedom and sovereignty, but we also remember the pride of being Jalisco, that is why it is the special meaning of the tour 2023 of Mexico in the Heart”, pointed out the Governor.
On the plate of Plaza de Armas in Guadalajara, with the artistic cast and the transportation units ready to embark on this year’s tour, the president of The North American Institute for Mexican Advancement (NAIMA), Sergio Suárez, added that the vision will always be to improve the lives of Mexican-Americans, especially with integration to their roots.
A greater rapprochement and sense of pride and identity is achieved free of charge, stressed the president of the organization. The municipal and state governments participate, as well as Mexican and American businessmen, as well as the different federations of migrants in the US.
“Mexico en el Corazón events have been presented in more than 50 cities in the United States and Canada, in the agricultural fields of Northern California, Washington State and several of the most important and iconic places in Canada and the United States. Joined. This year the tour of Mexico in the heart will be from coast to coast, with two routes, the first that starts today… and the second route, the East, which will be in August and September”, he said.
In this regard, Pablo Lemus, mayor of Guadalajara, referred to his experience seeing this spectacle and the feeling caused by countrymen and their families who have not been able to return to Mexico, feel that their land accompanies them, as well as their traditions.
He said he was happy to expand the program in which they will visit 18 cities in the United States and represent the city that represents the culture and identity of the country.
“Seeing them enjoying the public space in places as emblematic as Chicago, like Los Angeles, since this radically changes the love of these people for our country, since they revive the flame, above all, of the taste of Mexicanness,” explained Lemus Navarro.
This completely free cultural show that has been running since 2016 has toured the cities of Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Nashville, Houston, among others, as well as large venues such as the Boetcher Concert Hall in Denver, the Schermerhorn Symphonic Center in Nashville, the Discovery Green in Houston or the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park in Chicago, the agricultural fields of California and Washington or at the foot of Mount Rushmore National Monument in South Dakota.
