“One Health”: prevention of emerging diseases and the importance of overall health

The Assembly of the World Organization for Animal Health (OMSA) is being held in Paris from May 21 to 25, 2023. The globalization of trade has led to a resurgence and emergence of infectious diseases and to respond to these issues, the concept “One health, one health” was developed in the early 2000s. It sheds light on the existing interdependencies between the health of humans, that of animals and that of the environment. The idea is to approach health in a more global and global context in order to respond to health issues as well as environmental issues. How are the health of humans, animals and the environment intertwined? How to think regarding health in a more global way? How will this be able to prevent emerging diseases and disease outbreaks? Dr Hung Nguyen, Co-Director of the Animal and Human Health Program at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Leader of the CGIAR One Health Initiative and One Health and Food Systems Specialist Dr Magda Robalo , doctor, president of the Institute for Global Health and Development, former Minister of Health of Guinea-Bissau Herman Claeys, veterinarian for the Federal Public Service Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment of Belgium and Belgian delegate to from OMSA Flavie Goutard, veterinarian, doctor in epidemiology, specializing in the epidemiology of tropical infectious diseases, researcher and specialist in health risks at CIRAD, at the National Institute for Veterinary Research and the National Institute for Animal Sciences from Hanoi, Vietnam.
