Cybercriminals claim through social networks that they have the ability to reset whatsapp accounts blocked by the platform so that their owners can use them once more, provided they contribute an amount of money.
The messaging platform, owned by Meta, reserves the right to cancel its services in the event that users do not comply with the conditions of use detailed on its website. Among the actions or activities that WhatsApp prohibits and that might be grounds for blocking an account are the copying and distribution of works derived from its service or content that encourages illegal or inappropriate behavior.
Scams: cybercriminals offer to recover blocked WhatsApp accounts in exchange for money
WhatsApp points out on this page, in fact, that it can modify, suspend or cancel the access of certain users to its services “at any time and for any reason”, in the event that users cause damage or put other users at risk. like the platform itself.
Cybercriminals took advantage of this situation to share false offers through social networks, in which they indicate that, upon payment, they are able to unlock these accounts that have been interrupted due to misuse of the service.
This was verified by WABetaInfo, which shared one of these false ads in which a malicious agent encourages the blocked to establish contact with an Instagram user to recover their accounts.
“Get in touch with scitech_codes on Instagram, explain the situation to them and I’m sure they can help you restore your account,” commented a user who goes by the name @ElizabethC361 to another who requested help from this specialized portal to recover her account.
This user, in fact, claimed to have been able to restore her account following paying for a ‘software’ code to access her account.
From WABetaInfo, for their part, they recalled that this type of user defrauds victims of money and that only WhatsApp is capable of unlocking accounts.
What to do in case an account has been blocked
- Users whose accounts have been blocked or suspended will see a message on the application’s home page stating: ‘This account does not have permission to use WhatsApp’.
- Because only the platform is capable of returning the accounts to their owners, they must go exclusively to the Meta service through an email or by clicking the ‘Request review’ option in the application.
- Once the request has been reviewed, the company will send a six-digit code via SMS, which will allow these users to submit the request and add details that support their case. Once the case is reviewed, WhatsApp will contact the applicant.
