Endocrinologists told the publication “Why does it hurt”how not to confuse diabetes with ordinary fatigue. Many write off the signs of a lack of insulin to less serious ailments, and this threatens with serious consequences.

“As a result, complications such as diabetic foot syndrome and its further amputation may appear, as well as impaired kidney function, heart problems, decreased vision — retinal hemorrhage,” warned endocrinologist Leyla Asadova.

Excess sugar disrupts the cells and tissues of the body. About half of the patients are people aged 40–59, the most active working age. Endocrinologist Svetlana Zemlyanukhina emphasizes that in most cases type II diabetes occurs in people with a genetic predisposition.

The first signs of the disease:

  1. frequent urination;
  2. constant feeling of thirst;
  3. dry mouth;
  4. hunger with good nutrition;
  5. causeless weight loss;
  6. fast fatiguability;
  7. slow wound healing.

Even if 2-3 symptoms are detected, experts recommend taking a biochemical blood test and contacting an endocrinologist.

For prevention, they advise:

  1. achieve and maintain a healthy body weight;
  2. adhere to an active lifestyle;
  3. switch to a healthy diet, reduce the intake of sugar and saturated fats;
  4. quit smoking.
