“Brussels Police Open Fire on Stolen Car: Full Details of the High-Speed Chase”

Brussels police had to open fire twice on a stolen car that had driven into officers. The facts occurred on Sunday evening during a chase which started in Schaerbeek and ended in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, the Brussels prosecutor’s office confirmed on Monday.

The car had been stolen in Steenokkerzeel around 3 p.m. on Sunday followingnoon and spotted by the local police of Brussels-North (Schaerbeek/Evere/Saint-Josse-ten-Noode) around 6 p.m. in the sector of the Place du Pavillon in Schaerbeek .

The police forces managed to intercept the vehicle and asked the driver to turn off the engine. He refused to cooperate and managed to escape. A police inspector then fired a shot as the car moved at high speed towards pedestrians“, explained Stefan Vandevelde, spokesperson for the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.

A chase followed through Koekelberg and Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. Police teams from Brussels-West (Jette/Ganshoren/Koekelberg/Molenbeek-Saint-Jean/Berchem-Sainte-Agathe) also took part.

After a second interception of the suspect vehicle, the driver once more managed to flee, hitting several police vehicles. At the same time, a police inspector fired several shots at the fleeing vehicle. The driver was finally able to be intercepted and deprived of his liberty“, a conclusion M. Vandevelde.

After interrogation, the man was made available to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, which opened an investigation for theft from a vulnerable person, malicious obstruction of traffic and armed rebellion.
