David Clarinval was the guest of Martin Buxant this Tuesday morning in the morning of LN24 and LN Radio.
He mentioned several subjects, starting with interest rates, which are currently very low at the European Central Bank. “These rates are reflected in the mortgage loans and in the loans we make to businesses. Everyone saw that the price of silver was rising. It is time for interest rates for savers to reflect this general rate hike. Yes, these rates need to increase. How ? Either the citizen must exert pressure by contacting his bank or by placing his money at a more interesting rate”he begins.
Before returning to e-deposit, a mechanism put in place by the state which allows each Belgian to open an account for free and deposit money there with better rates. “Feel free to do so. This will put pressure on the market”, advises the minister.
David Clarinval then commented on the tax reform, which is slow to return. “We want this reform. In Belgium, we are the champions of the tax rate on work. It is essential to reduce the tax burden that weighs on workers. The text tabled by the Minister of Finance Vincent Van Peteghem still contains a lot of questions and difficulties for us”, confides our guest.
The Minister also returned to the national demonstration which took place on Monday in the streets of Brussels. According to him, the right to strike is not in danger in Belgium. “I’m sorry, but we are the country with the most strikes in the world. I have never heard of the right to strike being threatened. It is a bad trial that we are being made”.
David Clarinval commented on the Engie file, another file that is currently occupying the government. “There is an urgent need to be able to extend as many nuclear power plants as possible. Today, on the table, the extension of two power plants is in progress. We have information from the Prime Minister. Negotiations are ongoing with Engie. We feel that there is a shared desire for things to succeed. I think that we will have an agreement for these two power stations in the coming weeks,” confided the minister.
The latter also commented on the launch of a toolbox that allows entrepreneurs to create their own e-commerce box, a sector very popular with Belgians.
David Clarinval also mentioned the possible reform of the state. But it should not be desired so soon from the parties of the Vivaldi. “Currently, there is no consensus within the parties to achieve state reform. Some parties are ready to go further by regionalizing certain powers, but others would like the federal government to centralize others that are already regionalized. This will spark big debates. So, in the short term, it will not be possible to have a reform of the State”, concluded the minister.
