The volume of containerized cargo through seaports has almost doubled

Vietnam’s seaport throughput nearly doubled between 2015 and 2022, averaging 8.4 percent, the Vietnam Maritime Administration (VMA) said.

In the first quarter of this year, the throughput of Vietnam’s seaports exceeded 165 million tons.

Over the period, the average growth rate of containerized goods handled alone was 11.9%. In 2015, the volume of containerized cargo through the ports reached approximately 126.3 million tonnes (11.5 million TEUs).

In 2022, this figure reached more than 243 million tons, an increase of almost 5% compared to the same period in 2021 and more than twice as high as seven years ago.

In the first quarter of this year, the throughput of Vietnam’s seaports exceeded 165 million tons, including nearly 53 million tons of containerized cargo.

In the master plan for the development of the Vietnamese port system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision of 2050, the VMA plans regarding 1,422.5 million tons of goods through local seaports by 2030, of which 559 million tons of containers.
