The Russian PMC “Wagner” is trying to organize the supply of weapons through the territory of Mali for use in the NVO zone in Ukraine. This was announced today, May 22, by the head of the press service of the State Department, Matthew Miller.
He claimed that in the past few days, US authorities had received intelligence that the Wagner PMC was “trying to carry out arms deliveries” through Mali, trying to “use false documents for these transactions.”
“We believe that Wagner is trying to hide its attempts to acquire military equipment for use in Ukraine, including by working through third countries, third countries where they have strongholds,” he said at a regular briefing.
According to Miller, Washington “has evidence” that Wagner is trying to acquire combat systems from foreign suppliers and smuggle them through Mali as a third party. At the same time, the representative of the American foreign policy department admitted that the US administration has not yet seen evidence that these deliveries were agreed or carried out.
“But we are closely monitoring the situation. We have imposed sanctions on a number of entities and individuals on several continents that support Wagner’s military operations. We will provide more information regarding this shortly.” Miller stated.
