Geneva, May 22 (APS) – The general debate kicked off Monday in Geneva at the 76th World Health Assembly shortly following the opening speech by the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus , found the APS.
Some 163 delegations will take the floor in turn. The representative of Germany took the floor first, the representative of Malta will close the list of speakers.
Senegal’s Minister of Health and Social Action, Dr Marie Khemess Ngom Niaye, is the 73rd person to address the World Assembly.
The World Health Assembly is being held in Geneva from May 21 to 30 on the theme: “75 years of WHO: saving lives, acting for health for all”.
In his opening speech, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the time had come to write together “a new chapter in the history of global health” so that we can “address to common threats with a common response” following the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Now is the time for us to write a new chapter in global health history together, to chart a new course, together, and make the world a safer place for our children and grandchildren,” said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
