After being kidnapped along with 48 people between the states of San Luis Potosí and Nuevo León, a Cuban migrant was rescued by Mexican authorities.

Immediately followingwards, the National Institute of Migration (INM) delivered Visitor Cards for Humanitarian Reasons (TVRH) to the migrant victims of the crime. In addition to the Cuban, the group of 48 included people from Honduras, Haiti, Venezuela, El Salvador and Brazil.

Of these, 17 adults traveled alone and 31 made up families with minors. In this sense, the Attorney General’s Offices of the states of Nuevo León and San Luis Potosí took charge of the migrants.

Adults and minors traveling as a family were placed under the guardianship of the authorities of the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF).

López Obrador announced the rescue

In the midst of such a panorama, it was Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador himself, who announced the rescue in his customary “morning” conference.

Among the people rescued were 23 men, 15 women, six boys and five girls. However, some testimonies from migrants indicated that there were 52 people on the bus, 50 migrants and two drivers. This was stated by the Mexican president.

AMLO also assured that the migrants who were missing in Matehuala, San Luis Potosí, were rescued. On the other hand, the San Luis Potosí Attorney General’s Office reported the rescue of 34 people on the border between San Luis Potosí and Nuevo León.

On Tuesday, nine migrants were located in Doctor Arroyo, a municipality in Nuevo León, and on Wednesday another six, in Matehuala, San Luis Potosí.

In El Tajo, Nuevo León, another one was located and finally, on Thursday, 33 were recovered, according to information that does not agree with the data offered by the San Luis Potosí Prosecutor’s Office.

Testimonies from the victims clarified that the kidnapping occurred on a bus when they were traveling from Chiapas to Nuevo León. He was approached by members of organized crime in the “Los Medina” area, a town near Doctor Arroyo.

Unfortunately, this story is repeated over and over once more, since at the beginning of the month, 113 undocumented immigrants were kidnapped by five people. Among them were several Cubans in the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado, in the border state of Sonora. The event occurred in a house in the El Mezquite neighborhood, but the victims were rescued by the police.
