Gulfstream G800 and G700: New Equipment Variants, Sustainable Fuel, and Speed Records

It’s already a tradition: Gulfstream flies non-stop with the latest product from the plant in Savannah, Georgia, to the EBACE trade fair in Geneva, repeatedly setting new speed records. Last year, the G700 did this in seven hours and 37 minutes at Mach 0.9. And this year, too, the prototype of the new G800 flew in non-stop – using sustainably produced kerosene, i.e. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Although the Gulfstream G800 has not yet been approved, its new equipment variants are very popular. The G650 already offered the option of installing a shower. A fixed bed was not previously planned. Gulfstream has responded to numerous customer requests starting with the G800 and optionally installed a 160 x 200 centimeter bed and a shower for an additional charge.

“By flying the G800 test aircraft at EBACE2023 this year, we are demonstrating the maturity of this program,” said Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream. “The G800 offers a winning combination of high-speed aerodynamics and fuel-efficient engines to reduce emissions and save our customers flight time. Equipped with our latest advances in technology and innovation, the G800 adds the longest range in the industry to our aircraft portfolio.

Powered by high-thrust Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and fitted with Gulfstream-developed wings and winglets, the G800 has improved fuel efficiency and can travel 8,000 nautical miles/14,816 kilometers at Mach 0.85 and 7,000 nautical miles/12,964 km at Mach 0.90 fly. The G800 has received the Gulfstream Symmetry Flight Deck, with active sidesticks and the most extensive touchscreen technology in the industry. The G800 cabin can be configured with up to four living areas, with seating for up to 19 passengers and sleeping accommodation for up to ten. The aircraft also features 100 percent fresh air, never recirculated, a plasma ionization cleaning system; and the highest cabin height in the industry.

The G-700 is already in the flight test program

There is also news from the G700. It demonstrated excellent stability and control during takeoff, landing and climb during two months of testing at Cecil Airport in Jacksonville, Florida. She also completed a test program at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia, performing landing and taxiing maneuvers in still water at takeoff and landing speeds of between 60 and 120 knots. In addition, the G700 has demonstrated various noise levels in flypast noise tests well below FAA regulations.

The G700 sets new speed records

The G700 reached the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE 2023) in 8 hours and 34 minutes. Gulfstream also reports a land speed record in India, achieving an average speed of Mach 0.90.

Other new speed records are:

  • Savannah to Tokyo in 13 hours at an average speed of Mach 0.89 using sustainable jet fuel
  • Tokyo to Seoul, Republic of Korea, in 1 hour and 53 minutes, at an average speed of Mach 0.90
  • Seoul to Manila, Philippines, in 3 hours and 23 minutes, at an average speed of Mach 0.90
  • Manila to Singapore, in 2 hours and 53 minutes, at an average speed of Mach 0.90
  • Bangkok to Amalty, Kazakhstan, in 6 hours and 42 minutes, at an average speed of Mach 0.90.

In total, the G700 test aircraft has set more than 40 land speed records worldwide. The latest G700 speed records must be recognized as world records by the US National Aeronautic Association and the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland. Gulfstream is showing its models at the outdoor (AD-08). In addition to the G800 and the G700, a G280, G500 and G600 as well as a G650ER have landed in Geneva.
