Chapala bets on the construction of an IMSS Family Medicine Unit

Domingo Márquez F.- With the disincorporation and donation of the land currently occupied by the Chapala Police Station and the Municipal Rastro, located next to the Soriana supermarket, the city council wants the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) to install a Medicine Unit Family in the municipality.

The point of agreement discussed in the town hall session was unanimously approved by the councilors, who congratulated the mayor Alejandro Aguirre for the initiative, but asked, if the construction of the Medical Unit is carried out, that the model be hybrid, that is to say that it attends to affiliates and non-affiliates, however, this last decision would be made by the IMSS, explained the trustee of the city council, Gamaliel de Jesús Soto Pérez.
Some councilors, such as Irma Paulina Vázquez Baltazar and Verónica Torres Raygoza, questioned that if the medical unit were to be carried out, where the Chapala and Rastro Police Station would be installed, to which the trustee Gamaliel replied that there are different spaces, but already would be seen at the time, “the important thing is to think regarding health,” he said.
“Well, first of all, I know that it is a challenge to venture to say that we are going to grant the donation of a municipal area in which there are obviously buildings for the provision of municipal services, there is the slaughterhouse and the Public Security department, but I think that Society needs the government to bet on situations where they are going to address the most important needs, which is health,” argued the trustee during the town hall session.
Of the proposed spaces, at least the police station might return to its old headquarters at the corner of Niños Héroes and Zaragoza or remain where the building of the Civil Protection and Fire Department is currently located, by the Ajijic bypass. The mayor of Chapala informed the councilors that they are also working with state authorities to have a hospital like the Jocotepec Community Hospital, but the City Council would have to donate land located in the town of Santa Cruz de la Soledad, because it would benefit these communities, such as those in the municipality of Poncitlán, where there is a high rate of kidney patients, although this still has no certainty to be carried out, although work is already being done on it.
