Stacey Bossa 32-year-old woman, received the worrying news that she had cancer, following going to the doctor for a brown mark under the nail of the right thumb, which was detected by his manicurist.

“I had gotten used to it (to the brand), and it wasn’t until someone pointed it out that it was a big and impactful moment,” he explained in statements reviewed by New York Post.

Boss visited her primary care physician before being referred to a dermatologist, who diagnosed her with a melanoma subungueala rare type of skin cancer found under the nail.

The condition can be treated when it is detected early, but a melanoma can be fatal if it is diagnosed too late, according to the Association of the American Academy of Dermatology, consulted by the American media.

According to the Dermatology Association, this condition often presents with signs such as a dark streak on the nail bed (the skin under the nail), a split, raised nail, or a bump under the nail; symptoms that Boss said he experienced.

In recovery

Last March, Stacey underwent an operation to remove the nail and part of the bone. For now, more tests will need to be done to make sure the melanoma hasn’t spread to other parts of your body, such as lymph nodes.

Boss hopes to raise awareness regarding this type of melanoma, urging others to take note of the subtle changes in the body, especially in the nails.
