Thanks to their founder and financier Haselsteiners, NEOS are closer to Russia than any other party in Austria
Vienna (OTS) – “Anyone who saw Beate Meinl-Reisinger’s appearance in the ‘ORF press hour’ today will understand why voters are running away from NEOS in droves,” said FPÖ Secretary General NAbg. Michael Schnedlitz is convincing. The NEOS program consists primarily of insulting the FPÖ. Meinl-Reisinger’s suspicion that the Freedom Party had been financed by Russia was resolutely rejected by the FPÖ Secretary General: “NEOS founder and financier Haselsteiner and his construction company have received lavish orders in Russia for the Summer Olympics in Sochi. A Russian oligarch also held shares in the group for years. If a party in Austria is close to Russia, then it’s the pink ones.”
Meinl-Reisinger is once once more on the wrong side with the demand that was made once more today that the Austrian Armed Forces should be used to clear mines in the Ukraine. “Austria, as a perpetually neutral country, has no place in a war zone. Anything else would be a clear breach of neutrality,” emphasized the FPÖ Secretary General.
The accusation that the FPÖ wanted Ukraine to be subjugated just because the Freedom Party was campaigning for peace also sounded bizarre. Two sentences later, Meinl-Reisinger then campaigned for a negotiated solution himself. Schnedlitz: “We don’t want anything else. This conflict can only be resolved at the negotiating table. A war that lasts indefinitely, also thanks to the massive supply of arms from the EU, is the worst solution.”
FPÖ General Secretary NAbg. Michael Schnedlitz also expressed the suspicion that the NEOS frontwoman had problems not understanding the politics of the FPÖ: “We don’t want to leave the EU, but we want to prevent us from being just passengers in the Union – keyword overturning the unanimity principle. That’s what we’re doing. We can’t do anything with the NEOS model of the ‘United States of Europe’.”
