Scorsese steals the spotlight at Cannes Film Festival with his new movie “Killers of the Flower Moon”

American director Martin Scorsese stole the spotlight yesterday, Saturday, at the Cannes Film Festival, while accompanying him with the screening of his movie “Killers of the Flower Moon”, which brings together for the first time stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, and deals with a dark stage in the history of the United States on the lands of the Native Americans.

And following Harrison Ford, who accompanied the screening of the fifth part of the “Indiana Jones” series on Thursday, the 80-year-old Scorsese, who won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Festival in 1976 with his film “Taxi Driver” and presided over the festival’s jury in 1998, had to prove that his presence on the red carpet was indispensable. still necessary.

The Cannes Festival witnessed the world premiere of “Killers of the Flower Moon”, which revolves around violence, settling scores and betrayal, and takes place at the beginning of the twentieth century in the lands of the Osage tribe of Native Americans.

The oil that was discovered in abundance in the lands of this tribe and made its members very rich was a curse to them, as it aroused the greed of white people, many of whom marry women from the Osages and seek by various means to seize the oil.

Members of the tribe suddenly begin to experience mysterious murders and disappearances, following the hero arrives in the small town of Fairfax on a train.

This work allowed director Martin Scorsese (80 years) to combine for the first time in one work Robert De Niro (79 years) and Leonardo DiCaprio (48 years).

DiCaprio plays Ernest Burckhardt, a man in love with an Aboriginal woman named Molly (Lili Gladstone) who faces a plot orchestrated by De Niro’s oil-cracking William Hill. An FBI agent, played by Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog), investigates Burkhardt and Hale in an effort to solve the murders.

The film, which has a budget of 200 million euros, seeks to shed light, through serial killings, on the colonial and racist practices that continued in the United States during the twentieth century.

And the director asserts that the film shows how some Americans “justified violence even once morest those they love by saying, “This is civilization. A group enters one land to leave another.” In the film, members of the Osage tribe, whose roles are played by actors who have integrated into this community, face diseases, depression, and laws governing discrimination between them.

The film was filmed in the locations where the horrific events took place, while DiCaprio, who was originally chosen to play the role of the investigator, but preferred to play the role of a serial killer, spent time with these Native Americans.

And Scorsese notes that “the goal was to immerse yourself in this environment,” despite the heat that prevails in Oklahoma and the wolves spreading in its meadows.

And the screening of “Killers of the Flower Moon” at the Cannes Film Festival carries hope for cinema, because Martin Scorsese had chosen the Netflix platform and the small screen to present his previous movie, “The Irishman”, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.

Paramount Studios produced the three-and-a-half-hour film, but Apple bought it and agreed to show it in cinemas before making it available through its Apple Plus platform, which made it possible to show it at the Cannes Film Festival.

The festival organizers had expressed a desire to include Scorsese’s film in the list of works competing for the Palme d’Or, but its producers preferred to remain out of competition.

And following the stars attended the red carpet, it was recorded on Saturday evening that the two stars, Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, passed to accompany the screening of the movie “May December” directed by Todd Haynes.
