Many people tend to drink a lot of water, especially in the summer, with the high temperature, in order to hydrate the body and get rid of the feeling of thirst, without realizing that this habit causes them some health complications.

In this regard, Dr. Hossam Mowafi, Professor of Critical Care Medicine at Kasr Al-Ainy, warned of the danger of excessive drinking of water, as it leads to complications that may lead to death.

“The liver, kidneys, heart, and part of the brain are the organs responsible for expelling water from the body,” Mowafi said during his presentation of the program “My Lord, Increase Me in Knowledge” on “Sada Al-Balad” channel.

He continued, “The entry of water into the body without expelling it causes death.”

He added, “A healthy body cannot store water, as the brain, liver, kidneys, and heart work to remove it from the body, through urine, sweat, breathing, and feces.”

He explained: “The risk of water poisoning occurs to patients who are unable to excrete water, such as patients with kidneys, heart and liver, due to the inability of their bodies to get rid of it.”

He added, “These patients must drink water, the equivalent of urine + 500 cm of water, but a healthy person drinks in moderate amounts without excess.”
