Last summer, several copies of Geely Preface 2023 appeared in Belarus. This car was sent to a neighboring country to study the potential demand in the local market. Then there was information that its production might be established at the Belarusian automobile plant. But following almost a year, no additional information on this matter has been received.
However, the Chinese model eventually appeared on the Russian market. It began to be supplied by domestic dealers unofficially. The first copies of Preface appeared in our country at the end of last year. Then the car was offered at prices that reached 2.78 million rubles. For comparison: in the same period, a sedan was sold on the Chinese market for regarding a million rubles, calculated at the rate of the end of last year.
However, at the beginning of May, information appeared that Russian dealers began to offer Preface once more. But this time they asked for 2.1 million rubles for it. Considering that from the end of last year to the present moment, the exchange rate of the Russian currency has fallen, it turns out that now dealers are selling the Chinese model with a lower margin. In both cases, buyers might purchase a sedan with a 2-liter turbocharged engine. Its maximum output reaches 190 hp. That is, following buying a Chinese novelty, you will not have to overpay for the transport tax.
This engine comes with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. In addition to it, customers have access to a digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch touchscreen monitor and a fairly large list of systems that provide a high level of comfort and safety. But for the specified amount, you can buy Preface only in the Far East so far. As you approach the central part of the country, the price of a car gradually increases.
By the way, Geely last year started developing a new version of Preface, which, judging by the incoming information, will bring a lot of changes. In particular, this applies to the interior, which will become more technologically advanced. In previously published photographs, a large touchscreen monitor was seen, placed vertically. Its presence indicates that the interior will lose many physical keys. At the same time, the list of systems responsible for security is expected to expand.
Despite the work on the new Preface, Geely does not forget to support the demand for the current version of the sedan. At least work in this direction is underway in the Chinese market. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in early May published information regarding a new modification of Preface. The main change that occurred in this model affected its technical part. The sedan has acquired a new 1.5-liter turbo engine. Moreover, its maximum return reaches 181 hp. In turn, until recently, only the 190-horsepower Preface was sold in China. That is, a new version of the sedan will soon go on sale, the power of which is reduced by only 9 hp.
But, according to the voiced information, this modification will be cheaper. About 1.28 million rubles will be requested for it. The future sedan will be offered with Bose premium acoustics, a multi-zone climate control, an adaptive speed control system, an automatic valet and more. The start date for sales of a car with a new turbo engine has not yet been announced, although Preface is expected to appear in showrooms in early summer.
