As we know, the players who will be selected in the next NHL draft will have to undergo a plethora of physical tests, but also an in-depth psychological examination. And these can be both necessary and unpleasant.
And there will be no hiding, everything is on the table.
“(They ask) your favorite kind of ice cream. We really analyze everything, said former NHL defender Alexandre Picard on Saturday during the pre-game of the duel between the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes, on TVA Sports.
“I had been drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers. During these physical tests, I spoke to the leaders of the Flyers for 45 minutes. The next day, I was booked another appointment with the Flyers sports psychologist which lasted a good 2-3 hours.
For his part, former coach Joël Bouchard added that while physical tests are important, psychological tests are more revealing.
“Guys, sometimes, are already developed to the maximum physically. I sometimes had contact with the Canadians, he doesn’t have much room for improvement compared to other players who may not have the same physical capacity at the moment. In 3 or 4 years, it is a projection that we want to make. The interviews are two times. We speak with the individual, we want to know what he has to say, how he sees it, who he compares himself to. Does he have a good assessment of his game. When he speaks to us, do we understand what he means. But there is also the psychological side, where the teams will do 3-4 hour tests.
