Austria is defying the pan-European trend and is recording declining asylum numbers
Vienna (OTS) – “The asylum brake works. While the European Union as a whole recorded an increase in the number of asylum seekers of around 34 percent compared to April 2022, Austria can look forward to a decrease of one third. The success of Austria’s asylum policy is also evident in a year-to-year comparison. Compared to the same period last year, the number of asylum seekers fell by almost 20 percent in April. This shows once once more that the consistent asylum policy of Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner provides real remedies and long-term solutions to the migration issue,” was the reaction of the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker, to the pleasing decline in the number of asylum seekers in April 2023.
“The declining numbers also expose the malicious comments of the opposition parties as farce. Every state visit abroad by federal government politicians has been accompanied by the same circus of malicious comments. Unfortunately, the short-sighted jesters of the Austrian opposition are only too happy to forget that precisely these state visits contribute to reducing the asylum pressure on Austria in the long term. It is good and right that the Austrian asylum policy is in the capable hands of Federal Chancellor Nehammer and Minister of the Interior Karner and that the number of asylum seekers is falling significantly,” Stocker concluded.
