The cosmologist space theoretical physicist, the English Stephen Hawking declared, shortly before he died, in 2018, that different negative circumstances threatened the human species and life on earth.
Hawking was referring to frequent incidents of nature, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, pandemics, potential asteroids and comets that might impact our planet, as well as the almost certain occurrence of nuclear confrontations.
He came to point out that these phenomena might produce the elimination of life on the planet in the course of a thousand years.
It is striking that he pointed out that the first alternative to search for a place to survive would be to find another place within the solar system. Although this may sound reasonable at first, we know that within our solar system no other planet reproduces the conditions that exist on earth, so we would not find a suitable hospitable environment to allow our life there.
Although minimal conditions for the possibility of life have recently been detected on some satellites, particularly Jupiter and Saturn, none of these are comparable to those of our planet.
The universe hosts different types of life that germinate in millions of celestial bodies, but each type of life develops the characteristics that its environment allows, so the interactions between the various types of life would be very scarce, or almost null. Hawking also said that if we mightn’t find a place in the solar system, we might look for it in the deepest outer space.
It is difficult to understand how human beings can claim to travel millions of light years, because their biological condition would make it ridiculous to undertake such adventures.
I believe that all the conditions indicate that we are prisoners of the environment that has created us and that it would be illusory to seek to settle in any environment that is foreign and different from the one that life gives us.
Therefore, it is very difficult to accept the claim that extraterrestrial beings have visited us or are trying to get closer.
That is totally impossible if we make use of the knowledge that, up to now, we have accumulated as a human species.
What we cannot deny is that our brain’s capacity for imagination is so broad and fertile that it allows us to understand that everything we conceive can turn into reality. How far will we go?
