La “Brussels Pride: The Belgian & European Pride” started this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mont des Arts in Brussels. Some 150,000 participants are expected. The theme for this year’s Pride is ‘Protect the Protest’.

During Pride, “the LGBTQIA+ community gets all the attention and the streets of Brussels are draped in the colors of the rainbow,” the organization said in a press release. This year’s theme is “Protect the Protest”, a call for respect for the fundamental right to protest, which is still too often violated.

Many associations and institutions also register. They come to inform the public regarding the struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community in Belgium and abroad. To this end, the Pride Village is traditionally installed on the Mont des Arts. Two stages have also been set up in the city center for LGBTQIA+ artists. In total, a hundred partners, associations and artists will take part in the event in the streets of Brussels.
