Successful Separation of Conjoined Twins Hassana and Hasina in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: A complex surgery in Saudi Arabia to separate conjoined twins Hassana and Hasina has been successful. At the end of a 14-hour long surgery led by an expert medical team, the two were successfully separated. The Nigerian conjoined twins were conjoined, including the lower chest, liver, intestines and other internal organs.

36 doctors and an 85-member medical team from various other departments participated in the eight-stage surgery. The internal organs were separated in various stages. Saudi Royal Court Advisor and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center Supervisor General Dr. Abdullah Al Rabiha led the surgery. He said that so far 56 surgeries have been performed to separate Siamese twins brought to Saudi Arabia from different parts of the world. 130 conjoined twins from 23 countries have been separated in this way in the last 33 years according to the instructions of the Saudi authorities.
