“New Coronavirus Cases in Fixed-Point Medical Institutions: Weekly Reports by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare”

2023-05-19 10:18:05

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced on the 19th that regarding 5,000 fixed-point medical institutions nationwide reported 2.63 cases of the new coronavirus from 8 to 14 days per medical institution. It was 1.46 times the 1.80 people in the previous week (1st to 7th), which was calculated as a reference value, and was analyzed as “a gradual increase trend continues.”

This is the first announcement since the new corona has been classified under the Infectious Diseases Act as 5. It will switch from a “total grasp” that reports the number of all infected people every day to a “fixed point grasp” that only fixed-point medical institutions report for one week, and will be announced every Friday. A total of 12,922 people were infected between the 8th and 14th.

By prefecture, Okinawa had the highest number of infected people per medical institution, at 6.07. The lowest was Kochi with 1.27 people. In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the number was 2.40 in Tokyo (1.70 times the previous week), 2.33 in Kanagawa (2.35 times the previous week), 3.02 in Saitama (1.96 times the previous week), and 3.08 in Chiba (2.18 times the previous week).

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said that it was not possible to simply compare the reference figures for the previous week and earlier because the calculation methods were different.

A total of 2,330 new hospitalized patients were admitted to medical institutions nationwide during the week from August 8 to 14, almost unchanged from the previous week (2,385). (Tomoyasu Sakakibara)
