Additional overnight accommodation in the region
St. Polten (OTS) – In the strategy of the LEADER region Weinviertel-Manhartsberg, the ongoing improvement and further development of overnight accommodation is an important goal. Due to the small number of parking spaces for mobile homes and caravans, additional parking spaces are now being created. Two double parking spaces for four mobile homes have been set up at the Amethystwelt Maissau car park. A mobile home and caravan site for five vehicles is being built in the Mailberg area. The construction of five parking spaces in the Hadres cellar lane is also planned.
The new caravan pitches in the LEADER region Weinviertel-Manhartsberg are being built due to the increased demand for flexible overnight accommodation and the still low supply. The Weinviertel is on the upswing in terms of tourism: in 2022, more than 587,000 overnight stays were recorded. New accommodation options are extremely important, and the planned caravan sites offer good solutions, especially with regard to the camping boom, which has become increasingly noticeable since the pandemic.
The municipality of Maissau is home to one of the TOP excursion destinations in Lower Austria, the “Amethystwelt Maissau”. “The measures are intended to attract more guests to the community, the region or to the excursion destination and to increase the added value of the local winegrowers and restaurants as well as the local supply,” says Johann Gartner, Chairman of the LEADER Region Weinviertel-Manhartsberg. In the local area of Mailberg, a mobile home and caravan site for five vehicles is being built in a central location in this beautiful wine and pleasure community. Furthermore, the new parking space is to be equipped with information boards on leisure activities as well as hiking and cycling trails. The parking spaces should be completed by summer 2023. The cellar alley in Hadres is the longest “closed” cellar alley in Europe. After the agricultural use of the cellars and press houses has hardly existed, new uses are needed to preserve them for future generations. One such strategy is to set up a camper and trailer park. In order to avoid soil consumption and to guarantee the infiltration capacity of the subsoil, the parking spaces remain unsealed. Completion is scheduled for spring.
The LEADER region Weinviertel-Manhartsberg selected these projects for funding in accordance with their local development strategy. They are funded by the state and the European Union. The state of Lower Austria recently decided to support the EU program LEADER and the ecoplus regional funding on the initiative of the governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.
