A natural process in the life of the Sun is one of the factors that has been most seriously reviewed to determine the end of the Earth.

Few things are as certain as the fact that everything has an end. Every day there is evidence that this is a reality that must be faced at some point. The uncertainty, here, lies in the “when”. In this regard, humanity has been wondering, since ancient times, how it will be the end of our planet. There are many scenarios proposed, and with diverse foundations, but, definitely, those that come as a product of the scientific forecasts They are what generate the most intrigue. This puts the main risks for the Tierra in astronomical eventualities of great proportions, being the Sol and their transformations points of special interest.

Recently, an article was published in the magazine Naturewhich results from an observation made by scientists from different American research centers. The document shows how an exoplanetwith characteristics similar to those of Jupiter, was “swallowed up” by the star of your planetary system.

As such, the event is a product of the Natural growth to which the stars are destined within their cycle. For the same reason, the fact that this change in the dimensions of the Sol take place is not in itself something entirely new. For example, there is a video made by the European Space Agency (ESA), in which you can see how our star is going progressively increasing in size.

When will the Sun “eat” the Earth?

The images collected by researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Caltech and other institutions, bear witness to the last moment of an exoplanet. This, according to records, was consumed by its staras a result of the expansion. Knowing the conditions of the Solar systemscientists calculate that the same fate might await the Earth, Mercury and Venusdue to its proximity to Sol.

According to the publication of these specialists, the date on which the Sun would “eat” the Earthand the other referred stars, would be approximately 5 billion years. It should be added that this remaining time is even more than it is estimated that the blue planet has been in existence.

The expansion of the stars occurs because they burn all the hydrogen housed in their cores. When they run out of that fuel, the luminous bodies begin to grow and transform into what is known as “red giants”.

It should be added that the importance of the work in question lies in the fact that this is the first time that the phenomenonof which its consequences were already supposed, is observed.

“This kind of phenomenon has been predicted for decadesbut until now we have never really observed how this process unfolds,” said Kishalay De, lead author of the study.

The specialists involved in the work used different terrestrial observatories, and the space telescope, NEOWISE, to obtain the images that led them to their conclusions.
