As President Alberto Fernández had announced on national television, the Frente de Todos extended the impeachment trial to the Supreme Court of Justice with the last two rulings that suspended the provincial elections in Tucumán and San Juan, of course poor performance by judges Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rosenkrantz and Juan Carlos Maqueda.

The extension was incorporated into the process carried out by the Political Judgment Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, chaired by Carolina Gaillard, which this Tuesday is conducting a new round of witnesses regarding the allegedly irregular management of the social work of the Judiciary (OSPJN). .

For the first time since the political trial began, the Frente de Todos did not get its own quorum to open the meeting. It brought together 14 of its 16 representatives (two were missing, the massista Micaela Morán and the trade unionist Hugo Yasky, who joined later). For this reason, Gaillard resorted to an article of the Chamber’s regulations (number 108) that allows committee meetings to start half an hour following the call time with “at least a third of its components.”

Once the meeting began, the head of the Civic Coalition bloc, Juan Manuel López, entered the room, warning regarding the situation and asking that it be recorded. “It is absolutely irregular. I understand that you are ashamed not to gather a quorum, but say that you start with a third, ”he asserted. Then the other deputies from Together for Change joined.

At the meeting, the former director of the OSPJN, Aldo Tonón, who has already been summoned as a witness three times, was absent once more. The ruling party is still waiting for the court in charge of Ariel Lijo to give the authorization to transfer Tonón to the commission by the public force.

The interrogation this Tuesday began with Sebastián Clérici, legal secretary of the Court, and will continue with Laura Ambrosio, an affiliate of the OSPJN.

Expansion of impeachment

The extension of the impeachment trial to the Court consists of 33 pages and maintains that the judges who ordered the suspension of the elections in Tucumán and San Juan “intend to arrogate powers that do not understand them.”

“What is extremely dangerous for our institutions, and for our republican and federal system, is the political manipulation of the tools and procedural times that the Supreme Court used and abused,” says the presentation headed by the head of the pro-government bloc, Germán Martinez.

There, they warn that the Court “precautionarily resolved two cases with results of extreme institutional gravity and dangerous interference in matters of local jurisdiction, in addition to generating violations of the Human Rights of citizens, particularly their political rights recognized in article 37 of the National Constitution and in article 23 of the American Convention on Human Rights, among others”.

They also point out that, despite the fact that the cases of Tucumán and San Juan are different, “the Court put everything in the same package and resolved both files in a similar way (…) with a single specific objective: to suspend the elections at any cost.” , without making an adequate consideration of the facts and putting into crisis the outlined legal argumentation, and especially the cited jurisprudence”.

In addition to Martinez, goalkeeper Eduardo Valdés, Tucuman Jose Luis Gioja, Graciela Caselles, Walberto Allende and Fabiola Aubone, Tucuman Nilda Carrizo, Riojano Ricardo Herrera and Chacoan Juan Manuel Pedrini signed the extension.
