The subject of ticketing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has returned to center stage in recent hours. In question, an error in updating the athletics program on the official ticketing site, assumed by the organizers. Buyers in this second phase will not see certain events they thought they would attend. Which disciplines concerned? Whatdates? RMC Sport explains everything to you.

The second phase of ticketing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games began a week ago. Very quickly, the cheapest places found takers. Tickets, often for the highest amounts, are still available. But a problem crept into this sales phase: there was an update error in the athletics program on the official ticketing site.

Offbeat finals

In fact, people have booked a session with several athletic events in different disciplines, one evening for example. But as the correct calendar – adjusted before the second phase of sales – had not been updated online, some disciplines do not correspond to the days and times of the reservations.

Eight athletics sessions are affected by these changes. The finals of the women’s 5,000 meters and the women’s 3,000 meters steeplechase are part of it. The men’s pole vault qualifications have also been changed. In total, three sessions are “winners” following this modification and recover a test, five are “losers”.

The situation, which caught the organizers off guard, was criticized by some athletes like Alice Finot and Jimmy Gressier. Tony Estanguet justified himself in the team: “This is not a first, the ticketing specialists know that it can happen, it is also written on the site that the programs may have to evolve.”

Which tests are concerned?

*”Winning” sessions:

  • August 2 in the evening, who recovers the 5,000m (F) (qualifications) initially scheduled for August 3 in the evening.
  • August 3 in the morning, who recovers the pole vault (H) (qualifications) initially scheduled for August 3 in the evening.
  • August 5 in the evening, which recovers the final of the 5,000m (F) initially scheduled for August 6 in the evening.

*”Losing” sessions:

  • August 3 in the evening who loses the 5,000m (F) (qualifications) and the pole vault (M) (qualifications)
  • August 4 in the morning, who loses the 1,500m (F) (qualifications) but wins the 3,000 Steeplechase (F) (qualifications)
  • August 6 in the morning, who loses the 3,000 Steeple F (qualifications) but wins the 1,500m (F) (qualifications)
  • August 6 in the evening which loses the 5.000m final (F) more wins the 3,000m steeplechase final (F).
  • August 8 in the evening which perd la final du 3,000m Steeple (F)

The number of customers affected by this change is not yet known. For the moment, the people concerned have not received an email from the organization. Paris 2024 will try to “find the best solution” to respond to this imbroglio. “We will write to them and see with them to find the best solution, explains in the Team the boss of Paris 2024 Tony Estanguet. We will inform all the people concerned by these sessions. We apologize, we are really sorry.

It is common to see time adjustments take place until the start of the competition. It is thus possible that other marginal adjustments will be made in other sports by July 26, 2024, the date of the start of the events.
