The defense of the former mayor of Yekaterinburg, Yevgeny Roizman (included in the register of foreign agents), in the framework of the next trial on discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), asked the court to add to the case the characteristics given to the politician by the singer Alla Pugacheva and the widow of the first president of Russia Naina Yeltsin. This was reported by a Kommersant correspondent present at a meeting in the Oktyabrsky District Court.

Positive characteristics of the ex-mayor were also given by the former editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy Alexei Venediktov (included in the register of foreign agents), member of the Presidential Human Rights Council Eva Merkacheva, directors Nikolai Kolyada and Alexei Fedorchenko. The editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Nobel laureate Dmitry Muratov came to the meeting in Yekaterinburg.

Some of the characteristics, for example, from Alla Pugacheva, the court refused to attach, referring to the fact that the appeals are not procedural and are not being investigated. “Non-procedural – these are all those characteristics where they said that Roizman should be released, that one should not be persecuted, and the like,” Evgeny Roizman believes.

Recall, the investigation believes that in July last year, the ex-mayor of Yekaterinburg, “wishing to undermine the authority of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”, broadcast “Answers to Your Questions” live on YouTube. During the broadcast, according to a prosecution representative during the trial, he refers to the special military operation in Ukraine as a “war” and the Z symbol as a “ridge.”
