«Lengthen the hours by the infinity of sensations», thus expressed Baudelaire. These words apply perfectly to the Island of Djerba. A dream place among many others. We may be voluptuous, moved, saturated with photos indicating an escalation of superlatives making the legend of the jewels of southern Tunisia.
In a poignant nostalgia, the island of Djerba wants to be the ideal destination throughout the year to discover a rich heritage, still little known. All the seaside, well-being, outdoor and nautical activities worthy of a renowned island are there. And Djerba is much more…
Behind its postcard images, Djerba conceals many natural and cultural treasures that offer the possibility of discovering this exceptional place in a different way.
The diversity of landscapes, between land and sea, offers an infinite palette of colors and is home to exceptional and varied flora and fauna. The millennial history of the island, which has forged its multicultural intensity, is revealed on the archaeological sites and in the shadow of the magnificent monuments.
To live a moment of sharing and sensory experience, you have to visit the century-old workshops of potters, basket makers and weavers. Djerbian artists express themselves through calligraphy, painting and even Street Art.
Federative dynamics
Inspired by the first management organization of a regional tourist destination, the “Authentic Tourism Federation destination Dahar”, created in March 2018 for the destination Dahar, the tourism stakeholders of Djerba, in partnership with the Tunisian National Tourist Office and the Ministry of Tourism, initiated a federative dynamic at the end of 2019. They started from the obvious observation that the grouping is essential to coordinate and promote the Djerba destination.
Thus, the DMO (Djerba Mangement Organization) was born in February 2021, supported, within the framework of the project “destination South-East Tunisia”), by the State Secretariat for the Swiss Economy (Seco), implemented by Swisscontact and conducted in collaboration with the Tunisian Ministry and National Tourist Office.
The objective being to diversify and renew the image of the destination, by integrating all the tourism offers, in particular seaside, sports, cultural, heritage, relaxation, leisure, health… it is also a question of proposing a diversified, inclusive and sustainable tourism in Djerba.
The project also aims to bring together the greatest number of tourist service providers and public and private actors active and promoters in the tourism sector of the island of Djerba, to offer services to TOs and visitors to the island and to members of the DMO Djerba in order to promote the tourist offer of this destination.
In public-private partnership, the DMO federates hoteliers, travel agencies, restaurateurs, service providers and promoters of cultural and sporting activities, artisans, guides and associations. He is accompanied and advised by Ontt.
The DMO conducts parallel activities to promote the destination Djerba, consensual territorial marketing relayed by the operators of the island, digital and participatory marketing on the internet and social networks and strengthening the diversity of the tourist offer and para-tourist during all seasons…
For Naceur Bouabid, former president of the Association for the Safeguarding of the Island of Djerba (l’Assidje), “awareness of the singularity of the prestigious heritage of Djerba and the urgency of its preservation, long carried by Assidje “is now commonly shared, a passion for heritage is unprecedented, the concern to preserve it and protect it further from nuisance is palpable and on everyone’s lips. And to add: “As proof the incessant initiatives undertaken, mainly the project to include the island on the World Heritage List or that still inherent in the development of the long-claimed development master plan and which is in the final phase of completion”.
Djerba la douce, the island of Lotus-eaters, remains the memory of the Mediterranean and the island of civilizations and tolerance, a plural island and a land of inspiration that seduces more and more…
