Al-Marsad newspaper – agencies: Experts have warned that the world will witness new record temperatures in the next five years, which are likely to rise by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above levels before the industrialization period.

Exceeding the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius might have “serious consequences” for humans, according to a report by the World Meteorological Organization.

Warning not to exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius

And this UN agency warned that exceeding the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius would represent a significant acceleration in human impacts on the global climate system, and would send the world into an “uncharted territory.”

Under the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, countries pledged to try to keep global temperatures below 1.5°C above “pre-industrial” levels following it was scientifically proven that going much further would unleash a chain of catastrophic and irreversible effects.

The organization is sounding the alarm

Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, said: “This report does not mean that we will permanently exceed the 1.5°C limit set in the Paris Agreement, however, the organization is sounding the alarm that we will exceed this level on a temporary basis.”

The average global surface temperature has never been above 1.5°C.

pre-manufacturing stage

The highest average in previous years was 1.28°C above pre-industrial levels.

The report, published on Wednesday, found that there is a 66 percent chance of exceeding the 1.5°C threshold in at least one year between 2023 and 2027.
