Report of incitement against Waldhäusl: No extradition

In the twelve-member body, only the representatives of the SPÖ and the Greens voted in favor and thus remained in the minority. The application to the state parliament is therefore also to be rejected. It was found that there was a connection between the alleged criminal offense and the political activities of the second president of the Lower Austrian state parliament, Gottfried Waldhäusl. The state parliament therefore wanted to decide that an official persecution of the FPÖ politician would “not be approved”. The next session of the state parliament will take place on Thursday next week (May 25).

“Incitement is not a trivial offense”

The SPÖ had already announced before the committee on Wednesday that they would vote for the extradition. “Incitement is not a trivial offense,” emphasized club chairman Hannes Weninger in a broadcast. Waldhäusl must face criminal prosecution. At the time of his “inhuman statements” (in a TV talk show on February 2, note) he was a member of the Lower Austrian state government and was therefore not immune. After the committee, the Greens also pointed out that the Freedom Party was not a mandatary. Waldhäusl himself had requested that the committees deal with the cause.

Display of SOS fellow human

The current complaint was submitted by SOS Mitmensch. On February 2, Waldhäusl was a guest in an edition of “Fellner! Live” on oe24.tv as a regional councilor for asylum. The FPÖ politician is said to have portrayed Syrians and Afghans as violent criminals in a generalized way, so the tenor. It’s regarding statements like: “They are not willing to accept our values, our culture and our religion, and if someone is not willing to accept that here, then they have no place with us. And once more. If they actually open are fleeing, why do you then throw away the passport, all the documents except the knife. The knife is never thrown away.”

During his time as state councilor from 2018 to March of this year, Waldhäusl was reported several times. Investigations into the media-placed demand for “asylum triage” – priority for accommodation for women and children from the Ukraine – and payments to an operator of a refugee camp have been discontinued.

In connection with the transfer of unaccompanied minor refugees to the asylum accommodation in Drasenhofen (Mistelbach district) surrounded by barbed wire in November 2018, Waldhäusl and a former state official were accused of abuse of office. In 2022, a month-long process followed at the regional court in St. Pölten, which ended with final acquittals.
