The lifeless body of a man was fished out Tuesday noon in the Meuse, near Statte, in the entity of Huy, we learned from the local police and Civil Protection.
A witness had reported, Sunday evening, having seen a person in difficulty in the Meuse, in Huy. The firefighters of the Hesbaye Meuse Condroz rescue zone and the Huois police immediately deployed to try to find the potential victim, in vain.
At the request of the missing persons cell of the federal police, a specialized team from the Crisnée Civil Protection operational unit was dispatched to the scene on Tuesday morning shortly before 9:00 a.m.
Equipped with a boat and a sonar, Civil Protection agents probed the river. Around noon, the body of a man was located and recovered. “The victim was discovered near the port of Statte. She did not carry any element allowing her to be formally identified,” the head of the Huy police zone told the Belga agency.
The Liège public prosecutor’s office was notified of the discovery. An investigation is underway to identify the deceased and the causes of his death.
