At the end of his contract with the Warriors in June, the president of basketball operations Bob Myers represents one of the big question marks of the summer at Golden State. Will stay ? Won’t stay? The more it advances, the more an extension at the Dubs seems to move away.
We can’t talk regarding the Warriors dynasty without highlighting the name of Bob Myers, boss of basketball operations and hub of the Golden State ecosystem. Arrived at the Dubs in 2011 and general manager of the franchise since 2012, he represents one of the great pillars of Californian success. But following more than a decade at the helm of GS, Myers is reportedly increasingly considering stepping down.
It’s the insider Marc Stein, often well-informed, who brings us the latest information from the San Francisco Bay Area. According to his sources, Bob Myers should hit the pause button and spend the 2023-24 season with his family rather than in the offices of an NBA franchise, whether at the Warriors or elsewhere.
Still according to Stein, Myers is the ‘important Warriors member most likely to leave’, well before Draymond Green who should stay alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson despite his free agent status. Franchise owner Joe Lacob is of course trying to convince Bob to extend the adventure, but it looks more and more like a losing battle. In the past, Myers had repeatedly stressed the very demanding side of his job as president, and we would therefore not be surprised to see him take a break.

A departure from Bob Myers would in any case represent a big blow for the Warriors. Not only is he the architect of the Golden State dynasty, but he’s also loved by all of the big names in the franchise, from coach Steve Kerr to the stars of the team. If the glorious era of the Dubs continues to last despite certain difficulties encountered (especially between 2019 and 2021) along the way, it is in particular thanks to Myers.
At the dawn of an off-season filled with questions, a departure from Myers would necessarily add a good dose of uncertainty to the various issues that will animate the summer. And maybe it will be the first domino to fall before others follow behind, potentially ending the Warriors dynasty.
