The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, showed this May 16 the lifeless body of a man, which he identified as a US citizen fighting on the Ukrainian side in the city of Bakhmut.
“We will deliver him to the United States, we will place him in a coffin, we will cover him with an American flag, with respect that he did not die in his bed like a grandfather, but died in the war and, probably, in a dignified way,” Prighozin stated.
The above, in a video published on the channel Telegram from Russian military blogger Alexander Simonov, who has been in Bakhmut for weeks.
The video filmed at night shows “the forward positions of the Wagner Group in the west of Artiomovsk” (Russian name for Bakhmut), while explosions are heard in the background.
Wagner’s boss shows the corpse, who has a bare chest and a wound on his right side, as well as apparently US identity documents.
“He was shooting, he died in combat”, Prigozhin added.

Wagner’s paramilitaries, the spearhead of the Russian campaign in Bakhmut, today claimed an advance of up to 220 meters and they occupied an area of 105,000 square meters in the west of the city.
“Under the control of the enemy there are 1.59 square kilometers,” Prigozhin stated in another video posted on his own Telegram channel.
