Gaétan Thibault, astronomer and physicist-engineer by training, will give a lecture on “The Fabulous History of Earth and Life” at the next meeting of the Club d’astronomie de Charlevoix, on May 22 at the Carrefour culturel Paul-Médéric, in Baie-Saint-Paul.

“The Earth was born at the same time as the Sun and the solar system 4.6 billion years ago. How did that happen and what has become of the Earth since? When did life appear? These are a series of questions that Mr. Thibault’s lecture will answer,” announced the president of the Astronomy Club, Hugues Lacombe.

This great subject will cover both the birth of our solar system, the formation of the Earth, its geological evolution, the drift of the continents, the beginnings of Life and its survival following six major extinctions, without forgetting the period of the dinosaurs, and ending with the appearance and evolution of the genus Homo.

Gaétan Thibault worked as a Defense scientist his entire career and ended up as an advisor to the Canadian Space Agency. He is director of the Io astronomy club of Val-Bélair and vice-president of the astronomy corporation of Val-Bélair, owner of the astronomical observatory at the Parc de la Découverte, in Quebec.

This two-hour conference is for the whole family. It starts at 7 p.m. and includes a break.
