Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Syrian director and cameraman, Yazan Sharbatji, announced the death of his father, the veteran director and one of the pioneers of directing in Syria, Hisham Sharbatji, on Tuesday.
Yazan Sharbatji posted a picture of his father on his Facebook page and commented on it by saying: “Thank you, everything… Mercy for your soul.”
For its part, the Artists Syndicate in Syria mourned Sharbatji, according to a tweet by the Syrian Ministry of Information on Twitter, which stated: “The Artists Syndicate in Syria mourns the great director Hisham Sharbatji, who died this morning at the age of 75 following suffering from illness.”
Hisham Sharbatji is considered one of the founders of the drama industry in Syria, and one of the most prominent directors throughout the history of Syrian and Arab drama.
Sharbatji was born on March 2, 1948, in the Syrian capital, Damascus. He has a son and a daughter, the director Yazan Sharbatji, and the prominent Syrian director, Rasha Sharbatji.
Sharbatji was nicknamed “Sheikh Al-Kar” as one of the pioneers of dramatic directing in Syria and has a library of prominent TV works such as the series “Mirrors”, “Five Stars Family”, “Six Stars Family”, “Seven Stars Family”, “Diary of a General Manager” and “Secrets of the City” and other works that gained wide popularity in Syria and the Arab world in general.
