The head of the Food Importers Syndicate, Hani Bohsali, confirms that “the prices of all food commodities are now in dollars and are exposed.”

Bohsali explains, in an interview with the “Lebanese Debate”, that “most basic food items will not increase in price, meaning they will not be affected by the customs dollar, and we must pay attention.”

Regarding the stability of the dollar price and the chaos of prices in some supermarkets, Bohsali says: “Anyone who has proof of this matter must put it in the drawing of the Ministry of Economy, and we have to warn of it, and the owners of supermarkets are required to be fair, and prevent any random increases because this is an issue.” unacceptable”.

Regarding the exploitation of some by pricing, he says: “The trader has no interest in raising his prices, and those concerned must curb all abuses, and we, as a union, call everyone to correct pricing.”

Regarding the impact of the increase in the customs dollar on food prices, he believes that “this increase will eventually prove the price, and for items on which the customs rate in dollars reaches 35%, which is equivalent to 15 thousand Lebanese pounds, the increase will be at a rate of 5%, while the second items should not be It is accompanied by a slight increase in relation to the high operating expenses.

Regarding the citizen’s anxiety regarding the high prices, Bohsali says: “We describe the reality as it is, any increase in the fees prices will inevitably lead to an increase in the prices of commodities, but the increase will be partial on most items and large on other items, and everyone is required to be wise when pricing.” to avoid problems.”
