DUBAI, 15th May / WAM / During the first activities of the UAE Maritime Week 2023, which continues until May 19th, the Maritime Leadership Dialogue Forum reviewed the strategic importance of the maritime industry in the UAE and the Middle East, in the presence of a number of sector leaders, decision makers and experts from major government and private institutions. And sponsored by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
The forum, titled “The Roadmap to Enhance Sustainability Opportunities in the Maritime Sector”, addressed the most important vital issues facing the sector, highlighting the latest trends, technologies and innovations that shape the future of the industry.
Participants emphasized the need to build partnerships between the public and private sectors, achieve more cooperation at the industry level, and stimulate innovation to drive sustainable development.
Her Excellency Eng. Hessa Al Malik, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in the UAE, said: The UAE has become a major player in enabling the global supply and supply chain thanks to its strategic location. Many programs that have enhanced national competencies in the maritime industry, and resulted in its efforts in consolidating its leading position through a proactive approach and creating an environment conducive to innovation.
Anders Ostergaard, Secretary General of the Emirates Shipping Association and CEO of Monjasa, explained that the UAE is known worldwide for its maritime capabilities, and ranks third in the world in facilitating seaborne trade, seventh in container handling, and twelfth in the efficiency of seaport services. The country ranks first in many competitiveness indicators, pointing to the efforts of institutions operating in the maritime sector and a preferred destination for international maritime companies looking to expand their operations globally.
In turn, Seatrade Chairman Chris Heyman stressed the importance of the UAE Maritime Week, which includes the Seatrade Conference and Exhibition for the Maritime and Logistics Sector in the Middle East 2023; It will include a number of discussions and dialogue sessions on major issues such as; Carbon removal, digitization, human resources development, maritime security, and growth stimuli in various fields of the maritime industry, adding that these forums shed light on identifying areas in which cooperation can be faced to face challenges.
