The World Championship in Riga is over for Calvin Thürkauf. The Lugano striker has injured his shoulder and will be out for 8 weeks.

The 25-year-old Zugois ended up in the boards during his first shift during Switzerland’s second match in Latvia. Taken to the hospital, the verdict did not take long to fall and he will certainly have to undergo a shoulder operation.

The press release from the Swiss team specifies that the Lausanne resident Damien Riat replaces him with immediate effect within the team. According to a change in IIHF rules already applied at the last U20 World Cup in Canada, an injured player can be replaced by a player present on the list.

This means that Riat replaces Thürkauf but that there are 2 places left for 2 possible reinforcements, namely Nico Hischier and Jonas Siegenthaler from the New Jersey Devils.
