- We took a closer look at the character from the opening credits
- This is what he has to say regarding the series
The same eyes, hands and legs have been seen in the opening credits of “Tatort” for 50 years. This is the man behind it.
“Tatort” Horst Lettenmayer: Production has “shabbily behaved”
Horst Lettenmayer (79) is the face behind the “crime scene” opening credits. The now 79-year-old spoke to “RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland” regarding his experience with the production of the series.
Lettenmayer was surprised that the crime show lasted so long: “It was not foreseeable that ARD would have such a success with ‘Tatort’. Now there are already over 1000 ‘Tatorte’, that’s amazing.“
He still likes to see himself in the opening credits, but he finds, “stylistically, one might certainly do a few things differently with the ‘Tatort’ opening credits“. Lettenmayer tells how he got to the opening credits of “Tatort” in the first place:
He was an active actor at 28uAnd at some point my agent called me and said that ARD was looking for incisive eyes for the opening credits of a new crime series, get in touch“.
Also interesting:
But things didn’t end well between him and the production. The actor only got 400 marks for his work. Back then, probably nobody expected that the series would be so successful. Therefore there was a dispute between the two fronts.
In his opinion, the ARD “a bit shabbily behaved, they might have changed something in hindsight“. But Horst Lettenmayer “meanwhile reconciled with the ‘Tatort‘“.
