“Argentinian Tourists Attacked with Machetes in Oaxaca: Latest News and Updates”

Oaxaca, Oax.- three argentinian tourists -Macarena E., 29 years old; Benjamin C., 23 years old; and Santiago L., 22- were attacked with machetes in the community of Lagunas de Chacahua, in the municipality of Villa de Tututepec on the Oaxacan coast.

According to the local media “Ecos del Pacífico”, the tourists who saw the incident pointed out that the attacker, who works as a masonry assistant, and the tourists were living together, when they began to argue and he took out his machete to attack them.

The inhabitants tried to separate them and stop the attacks, however, the tourists received injuries to their head, hands and arms.

Access to Chacahua is by boat, so the inhabitants took the tourists to the town of El Zapotalito where Civil Protection elements arrived and took them to the medical units in Puerto Escondido to be treated.

Alleged aggressor is not originally from Chacahua

Through a statement, the municipal government of Villa de Tututepec and the community of Chacahua Isla condemned the attack and clarified that the young offender is not originally from the communitybut from the state of Guerrero and came in search of employment.

They said that the tourists were taken care of immediately.

“We request the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office to carry out its work professionally and comply with the corresponding procedures that allow the aggression suffered by the 3 Argentine tourists to be sanctioned, because our municipality has always been characterized by hospitality, security and peace.”

He assailant was arrested by local police and consigned to the Office of the Prosecutor of the Coast, until now its legal situation is not yet known.
