Is it possible to experience unforgettable getaways, holidays or roadtrips aboard a fitted van called “1st prize”? You’re probably wondering, and it’s no surprise. In the same way as a famous car manufacturer, Dacia, not to mention it, which offers accessible and easy-to-live-in models, the brands and models we have selected also promise lovely memories of nomadic holidays… with a reasonable “entry ticket”.
Giottivan 54 T, compact and inexpensive
- Giottivan 54 T: from €50,000
The Italian brand Giottiline passed into the bosom of the Mayenne group Rapido only a few years ago. The national “flag” has changed but the manufacturer’s DNA remains intact: to offer leisure vehicles very well placed from a price point of view. A successful bet! The Giottivan range includes three models, the 54 T, 60 T and 60 B, with a choice of Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper or Fiat Ducato: in the latter case they are more expensive.
With 5.40 m long, the Giottivan 54 T (€50,000) on Peugeot or Citroën 2.2 l 120 hp is the most compact of the lot, the cheapest too. Thought more for two people, it offers an archi-classic layout with permanent (and transverse) rear berth and a dinette with a forward-facing bench seat. The interior atmosphere, quite bright, is successful. On the autonomy side, the standard equipment is not ridiculous at all with a 100 liter fresh water tank, 90 liter capacity fridge and Truma C4 heater, this model fulfills its mission. For extra comfort, even if it means slightly exceeding €55,000, we will go through the Van or Privilège Van packs!
Rimor Horus 45 with two large bunk beds
- Horus 45: from €53,600
Change of scenery with the manufacturer Rimor, another Italian brand, but this time an entity of the powerful Trigano group, the European N°1. This generalist manufacturer (it also offers profiled and overcab models) is renowned for its really very affordable models. This is true of its range of vans comprising five models, on Fiat Ducato 120 hp or 140 hp (the Horus 38, 45 and 95), or on Renault Master 2.3 l-145 hp (Hera 54 and 95 models). Paradoxically, it is the vans fitted on the Fiat carrier that will do the least harm to your wallet!
The Horus 45 model (€53,600) is probably one of the cheapest family vans on the market. It is only 6 meters long while being a real four-seater night. By what magical operation does he arrive there? By offering two bunk and permanent double beds in the rear. It’s simple and very smart! From the point of view of equipment and autonomy, you can count on 85 liters of clean water, a 90-liter refrigerator and forced-air heating. For the rest, the layout is tried and tested with the front dinette and side kitchen unit.
Roadcar R640, 6.36 m and twin beds!
- Roadcar R640: from €53,000
We do not change a winning positioning! At the German developer, we persist (and that’s good!) to offer models accessible to as many people as possible. To succeed, Roadcar has long relied on a limited range. This is of course topical in 2023, with four models (for the French market) of 5.41 m (the R540), 5.99 m (R600 and R 601) and 6.36 m (the R 640 ). It is this last model that we have chosen.
The R640 (€53,000) on Citroën Jumper 2.2 l surprises from the outset. If this model is the longest in the catalog, it is on the other hand a strict two-seater night. It offers two twin beds in the back, obviously arranged lengthwise. It must be recognized that this is quite rare in a van.
The interior decoration is sober but all the living spaces are there: dinette, kitchen unit and bathroom. A Truma C4 device is responsible for producing heating and hot water. You can count on 90 liters of clean water and a 90 l capacity refrigerator. Going through the Comfort Pack box (€1900) is almost compulsory. But even so, the R640 Roadcar is still a bargain!
