Russian media said, on Saturday, that Ukraine managed to shoot down two fighter jets and two helicopters near the border between the two countries, in what appears to be a heavy blow directed by Kiev to Moscow.

The well-known independent daily newspaper, which focuses on economic news, said on its website: “Two Su-34 and Su-35 fighters and two Mi-8 helicopters were shot down almost simultaneously.” “.

These planes were taking an offensive position in an ambush in the Russian Bryansk region bordering Ukraine, according to the newspaper.

“According to preliminary data…the fighters were supposed to launch a missile and bomb attack on targets in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine, and the helicopters were there to support them, along with other tasks, including rescuing the Sukhoi crew members if they were shot down,” the newspaper said.

Other estimates

The Russian news agency “Tass” said that a “Sukhoi-34” warplane had crashed in the area, but it did not say the reason.

The agency quoted an emergency service official as saying that the helicopter’s engine caught fire before it crashed near Klintsy, regarding 40 km from the border.

The agency did not mention anything regarding the Sukhoi-35 fighter or any other helicopter.

But a clip posted on the Russian pro-war “Voyene Osvidometel” channel on “Telegram” showed a helicopter exploding while flying at a high altitude, deviating from its course, and then falling to the ground with flames burning in it.

The comments accompanying the video clip stated that a missile shot down the Russian-made Mi-8 helicopter.

It was not possible to verify the authenticity of the video clip.

Kyiv position

The newspaper “Kommersant” did not provide any evidence of the downing of the four planes, and confirmed the death of all crew members.

There was no official reaction from Ukraine, which usually refuses to comment on any attacks inside Russia.

But Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, posted a tweet describing the incident as “justice … and an immediate reaction.”
