Ethereum developers have released app updates to address the recent finality issues plaguing the beacon chain and restore network stability. Fixes for Prysm and Teku Ethereum clients was released, allowing them to update their systems. The beacon chain network experienced block finalization issues on Thursday and Friday.
“Thanks to the diversity of clients, not all clients’ implementation was affected by this extremely negative scenario. After all clients have caught up, the network is re-committed.” wrote the Ethereum Foundation in a blog post.
According to the Ethereum Foundation, the root cause of the commit problems is still being investigated, but “it appears that this was caused by a high load on some of the clients of the consensus layer, which in turn was caused by an extraordinary scenario“.
According to blockchain analyst Arnold Toh “The Ethereum community responded in a timely manner, and this is definitely a good sign for the further development of the blockchain”. At the same time, the finalization problems are a stark reminder that the Ethereum beacon chain still needs to be developed and improved, so the work cannot stop.
Ethereum beacon chain commit issues
Users on the Ethereum beacon chain have experienced outages twice this week. The first incident caused the network to not finalize blocks for regarding 25 minutes, and the second outage lasted over an hour. According to data provider Beaconcha.in, there was a significant decrease in the number of confirmations received during the Ethereum epoch from 200,750 to 200,758 on Friday. These technical glitches raised serious concerns regarding the stability of the network, with two major outages in less than 24 hours.
