Finally a weekend under the sun and a little over 20 degrees! If we will not reach these temperatures everywhere in the country, it is already good news following another week marked by many rainy episodes and temperatures below the average for the season. “The highest precipitation values observed in the last 48 hours in Belgium (Provisional data: source IRM). Locally, these accumulations correspond to 3/4 of the precipitation expected for the whole of May. These abundant precipitations are part of a spring which promises to be among the wettest of the last 40 years: For our reference station of Uccle, over the period from March 1 (date of the beginning of the meteorological spring) to May 10, we is already at 222.9 mm. Only the year 2001 saw a higher total for 40 years over this period: 252.2 mm”, indicates Pascal Mormal, meteorologist at the IRM.
With what fell once more this Friday and what we expect next week, we might also approach this sad record… Because the good weather will not settle in any longer, unfortunately. The rain will return on Monday, before an uncertain and rather cool week. We do not expect 13 degrees on Tuesday and only 12 degrees maximum on Wednesday. For the long weekend, all is not yet lost, but we should experience a few showers interspersed with sunny spells, or the reverse.
We will have to wait until the end of the Ascension weekend to benefit from a little more positive weather. “From May 20, the weather might start to improve slowly, although there is not really a high pressure signal that might bring “great weather” for everyone. Nevertheless, the numerical models foresee a change of configuration. Temperatures will be on the rise, despite the persistence of some instability: this will probably result in stormy weather in places, but with a much more pleasant and mild feeling”, indicates the specialized site La Chaîne Météo.
