Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections are very common and are transmitted through sexual contact. About 8 out of 10 women are exposed to these viruses during their lifetime. In 60% of cases, the infection takes place at the beginning of sexual life. HPV infections are most often without any symptoms.

In France, at the end of 2021, only 45.8% of 15-year-old girls and barely 6% of boys of the same age had received at least one dose of the vaccine which protects once morest infections with the human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus responsible for cancer. This vaccination coverage is among the lowest in industrialized countries, far from the objectives set by the National Sexual Health Strategy and the Cancer Plan: 60% among adolescent girls aged 11 to 19 in 2023 and 80% by 2030. In this context, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron announced at the end of February the generalized vaccination in colleges for fifth graders. : we see in France that there are many more young girls than boys vaccinated… Why? What explains the general delay in France? We sometimes hear that the vaccine is ineffective when you have started your sex life. is it true ? Should GPs play a role in overcoming parents’ reluctance to vaccinate their children?
